Weekend in Iowa

Jess and I went to Iowa this past weekend to visit Angie. We had such a good time catching up and just hanging out together like old times!

I spent most of the time teaching Angie how to decorate cakes. We made three cakes...one tiered, one with raspberry filling and fondant, and one with sugar flowers. They turned out really cute and really delicious!

We didn't get to take many pictures because we were so busy with the cake stuff so we took some before we left...

My biggest, prettiest cake yet! I made this one for Emily's sister's wedding reception. She got married in California and had a reception at home in New Albany. It was a little nerve-wrecking driving an hour and a half with a stacked cake in the back, but we made it!

I made these cupcakes and small cake for Jess' wedding. I was supposed to do a 4-tiered cake, but with being in the wedding and hosting the rehearsal dinner, I just didn't have the time. Fortunately, Jess was not a bridezilla and was cool with doing cupcakes. I thought they turned out really cute!

The table was so beautiful with the glowing candles and rose petals.

Last weekend was my friend's wedding! Ralph and Jess tied the knot! It was a beatiful wedding and lots of fun! Here is Jess' bouquet. She and I picked out the flowers and Angie put it together. Gorgeous!

Since it rained ALL day on Saturday, the downtown fireworks were postponed to Sunday night, which was beautiful. The fireworks were great this year, and we had a perfect view.

My parents stopped by on Saturday afternoon and I thought it would be cool if Wes took my mom for a motorcycle ride. She hadn't ridden a motorcyle in years but was excited and had a fun time. Thanks Wes!

I dog-sat for my friend Emily's dog Edison...he's a beagle too. Edison and Snoopy wore each other out! We were in the garage, and I looked over and saw them standing next to each other peeking in the door. It was so cute!

Wes and I finally made it to Florida after a month of hard work! We love the Gulf side of Florida for their white sand and clear blue water. It just doesn't get much better than this!

Our annual tradition of leaving our mark in the sand.

Not only does the west coast of FL have beautiful beaches, they also have gorgeous sunsets like this one.

Trip to Clearwater

So, because I got really sun-burned, we decided not to lay out on the beach all day and instead took a trip to Clearwater to hang out and eat at one of our favorite restaurants, Crabby Bill's. We decided at the last minute to take a boat ride to see "celebrity" homes and dolphins.

Here is the only celebrity that I had heard of during their tour...this is Hulk Hogan's house...the one they filmed the reality show at. Although, now the house belongs to his ex-wife and her new boyfriend. Oh well!

We did get to see a school of dolphins while we were out. They followed the wake of our boat and jumped out of the water several times. It was pretty cool!

Friday night the cheerleaders, Steph and I had a girls night out. We went to Red Robin...yummmm...then back to my house for what we're calling our "bond"fire. I had a little trouble getting the fire started...I am a city girl through and through!

Elizabeth's birthday

We had a surprise birthday party for my mother-in-law, Elizabeth, on Sunday. This is the cake I made for her. The yellow on the cake actually turned out to be the color of their house. She was surprised and happy to have her friends and family over to celebrate.

My 27th Birthday

Here is my fabulously pink birthday cake, which my friend, Sharon, made. It was absolutely delicious!

We had my favorite people over for chili and hot dogs...mmmm!

It was perfect fall weather, and we had a bonfire going to keep warm...and to roast the hot dogs and marshmallows.

Wes loves it when people come over who like to play ping-pong.

I attempted to get a good family picture, but of course, my crazy sister had to make her crazy face!

She finally cooperated, and we got a good picture of the family.

Nicci, Jess and my sister sang a beautiful rendition of Happy Birthday to me...followed by everyone else singing the short "This is your birthday song. It isn't very long. Hey!" Both were a treat to the ears :)

Trip to Monacco

Wes recently went on a trip to Monacco for a "work" project (I'm not jealous at all!). In case you didn't know, Monacco is a tiny little country on the southeastern corner between France and Italy. This was the view outside of his hotel room. Magnifico!

Wes' trip to Vegas

Wes was sent to Las Vegas for a "work" project (Lucky dog!). This is where he stayed during his trip, the Luxor Hotel. Yes, the rooms are angled like that!

Here is the famous MGM casino.

This is the Stratosphere.

At the top of the Stratosphere is a crazy ride that takes you over the side of the building.

As you hang there, you then get to spin violently! Wes didn't ride this particular ride, but he did ride one where it pointed downward and stopped in mid air. People are nuts!

CCA Cheer Camp

The night before cheer camp, Stephanie and I had a fun activity planned for the girls. We put all their camp t-shirts in bags we decorated for them and made them close their eyes until we said "Open!" We love teasing them! Then we had funky little visor hats and flip-flops for them to decorate. We wore the flip-flops out to dinner to Acapulco Joe's. It was a fun night! Here they are posing with their bags...

One of our favorite camp outfits was the pink cheerleader shirt with the zebra print ribbons. They looked so cute...

Steph designed the shirts, and this one was our favorite. It looks like the 7up logo, but it says Cheer Up...Charger Pride, Always Had, Always Will. Cute, huh?!

We took the girls out in the blazing heat and made them pose on the playground. I think we're a little obsessed with taking pictures :)

We won 1st place in the cheer competition as well as the coveted spirit award. Way to go girls!!

Basement

After the June flood, our basement had some water damage (although we think it already had some damage from before). So one day, I saw Wes carrying out a huge roll of carpet from downstairs, and I thought...Oh no, I feel a big project coming on!! As always, he did a great job. Here is the progression of the remodel...

Wes added a wall to create more storage space.

He had to tear out a lot of the old framing and insulation that had water damage.

Here is our cozy basement. We will be adding recessed lighting,painting the ceiling tiles and of course some decorating. I really love it down there now!

I did this cake for Amanda's (my sister-in-law) friend, Summer. Her birthday was on the same day as Amanda's wedding rehearsal, and she wanted to do something special for her. The cake was a 3 layer chocolate with a yummy Oreo cream filling.

2nd cake

Here is my second and last cake for course 1. We learned how to do roses and leaves with icing. My icing was not cooperating like I wanted it to; so I only did three roses and some other random flowers. The green thorn-looking things on the edge are actually little leaves. I kind of threw the design together at the last minute. At least it tasted really good!

Symphony on the Prairie

Allen bought Kristin a table, along with 4 tickets, for the Symphony on the Prairie's "Simply Sinatra" concert. So she brought me, Jess and Jess' friend, Ralph, along for the concert. It was a lot of fun. The tent lights up with each song and creates a wonderful ambiance. There was also a great singer who sounded just like Sinatra, and lots of people got up to dance to all the wonderful songs. What a relaxing night! Thanks, Kristin and Allen!

Guys Night on the Lake

I was recently asked to do the bride's and bridesmaids' bouquets for a friend of mine. This is the bride's bouquet. It was a beautiful, simple bouquet of fresh red roses. Bethany helped me with this job because I needed some extra hands!

The bridesmaids' were simple white roses...very pretty for a spring wedding.

Another hobby that I just picked up is cake decorating. Since I love to bake (and eat), I figured this would be something fun I could do. I am taking classes at Hobby Lobby, and this is the first cake I decorated. Since it was 4th of July weekend, I decided to name my cake accordingly. If I get good enough, I would like to start doing wedding cakes down the road.

Pryor 80th Birthday

My mom's side of the family, the Pryors, celebrated my grandma's and grandpa's 80th birthday. We had a nice dinner and had a great time together at Jonathan Byrd's in Greenwood.

The family pitched in and came up with some really special gifts for them. Our cousin, Stephanie, put together a really cute book with all the grandkids' pictures and things we admire about each of them. Some of the aunts put together a scrapbook of letters to my grandparents from each family member. They have lots of reading (and crying) to do this summer!

On top of all that we presented them with $1,200 cash!! Don't spend it all in one place :)

Wes even put together a little keepsake for my grandpa. Since Grandpa used to drive a truck for Holland, Wes took a wooden toy truck he made as a kid and put Holland decals on it specially for Grandpa. He loved it!

Pryor 80th Birthday (cont.)

Party at Fort Harrison

The day after our party at Jonathan Byrd's, we had yet another party to finish off the weekend. We all went to Fort Harrison for a picnic. The guys played a vigorous game of extreme frisbee...thank God no one was hurt!

My spunky grandma decided she wanted my uncle, Mark, to take her for a ride on his Harley. Isn't she the cutest?!

When they came back from their ride, we all made a tunnel and cheered them into the parking lot!

Wes couldn't resist taking a ride on my uncle's Harley. It's his dream to one day own one, but our Honda will have to due for now :)

Cheerleading Initiation

Steph and I are so excited with this season's new squad. We have 11 girls this year! And since we had so many "newbies," we decided to have a cheerleader initiation night at my house. (From left to right: Abby, Alyssa, Jordan R., Krista and Melissa)

Florida

Wes and I went to Jacksonville, Florida for our 2nd wedding anniversary. We had a great time together relaxing and hanging out at the beach. Wes and Jay had a blast deep sea fishing, but Wes' head got a little fried! One word...sunscreen!

Valerie, my good friend and roommate from BBC, also lives in Jacksonville. It was great to see her and spend time together!

We stayed most of the week with Jay and Monica. BTW...thanks again! The four of us took a trip to Daytona Beach. It was a little toasty, but we had a good time.

Retirement

My dad retired in October after 30 years of public service to the state of Indiana. Our family had a party for him in January (we're always late doing things) at the Mayberry Cafe in Avon. As a gift, he receieved about $200...and who says money doesn't grow on trees?!

My Aunt Connie, presented gifts to my dad so that he won't get bored during his non-working days.

D.C.

In January, my work sent me to Washington D.C. for a conference. After the conference, I had a great time with my co-workers sight-seeing and enjoying the city. It was so cold, and we walked what seemed like the entire city in one day! If you can't tell, this is the Washington Memorial.

This was my first time in D.C. The White House looked smaller in person, but this is the side that is not usually shown on TV.

Abe was definitely larger than I thought.

Arlington Cemetery was awe-inspiring. It definitely struck a sense of gratitude and patriotism.

Pumpkin Patch

For those of you who don't know, Stephanie Brown and I are co-coaching the Varsity cheerleaders at Baptist Academy. Saturday, we took the girls to the pumpkin patch and spent the whole day together.

Here are the girls with their babies...they got really attached to their pumpkins!

After the pumpkin patch, we went to a chili cook-off at Villa's new property. The girls went on the hayride, which was really meant for the little kids, but they had fun anyway!

After the chili cook-off, we went back to Steph's house to decorate our pumpkins. We painted our school's name on them, and they turned out to be super-cute! The pumpkins are now on display at the school.

IU Family

Wes' Uncle David, from California, was generous enough to invite the fam to an IU vs. ISu football game. As you can see, Wes' dad (next to him) just couldn't follow the crowd and wear IU school colors. He's still attached to the Boilemakers, hence the gold and black attire!

We had a great time...thanks David!

This is probably the only time you'll see Wes and I matching on purpose :) He was a good sport and wore Hoosier colors even though he's also a Purdue grad.

IU killed ISU. This was the score at the 3rd quarter. We were all pooped and ended up leaving before the game was over.

Bike

Roofing

We chose the hottest week of the year to replace our roof...two weeks of 90 degree and above temperatures. Wes worked on the roof all day long for about a week. Thankfully, we had lots of help from friends and family. I even got up there and worked up a sweat!

This part scared me because we had a crane lift up the shingles onto the roof. Basically, we had about 4,000 lbs. on top of the house. I had to look away!

We had to cover the house with huge tarps because it rained a couple days. You can partially see the new roof over the porch and part of the huge dumpster in the corner.

Youth Group

Wes and I are involved in the jr. high class at Gray Road Baptist Church. We had the group over for a cookout in July. Check out Zach in the green admiring his bulging biceps! :)

Florida

In May, we took a trip to St. Petersburg, Florida for our one year anniversary. While we were there, we drove to Orlando to visit Wes' relatives and my good friend, Valerie.

Wes is a motorcycle enthusiast, and I like to ride along for fun! At the time, Wes didn't have a bike; so we borrowed a friend's bike to take engagement pictures. Oh, and this isn't our house either :)
